The benefits of eating a plant-based diet are numerous, but eating vegan is tough at the beginning. Don’t worry, it gets easier over time.
In this issue, we’ve got you covered with the ways to make your transition as smooth, easy, and delicious as possible!
1. Start small & strive for progress
Start small by including one extra serving of veggies and one less serving of meat per week, then per day!
Strive for progress and don’t get frustrated when making the transition. If you unintentionally ordered your latte with whole milk, or can’t resist stopping at your favourite burger joint, don’t fret! It is a normal part of this journey.
2. Pick up some new cookbooks
“But it’s so difficult to make a vegetarian diet taste good.” Say what?! Think again! These are our favorite books that make cooking with plants delicious and easy:
# The Oh She Glows Cookbook
# Minimalist Baker’s Everyday Cooking : 101 Entirely Plant-based, Mostly Gluten-Free, Easy and Delicious
3. Stock your kitchen
Cooking with only plant-based foods is not as difficult as it seems; it merely takes some time to learn new techniques and embrace a new world full of flavors. However, to explore new eating habits, it is essential to have ingredients on hand to avoid those desperate, “there are nothing to eat!” moments.
A well-stocked fridge and cupboards get you one step closer; You can make swift and healthy meals, even when you don’t have a plan for dinner.
4. Look for friends advice!
If you have friends who are vegan or have tried eating more plant-based, ask them for helpful tips. You can ask advice on finding the best restaurants with plant-based options, best ingredients to stock up on, and for their favourite dessert and snack options. Hummus is one of my go-to’s!
5. Educate yourself
Start reading more online and find a few reputable people to follow on instagram to learn more about a plant-based lifestyle. I say “lifestyle” because it is more than just food. It involves issues related to the environment such as climate change, animal well-being and health benefits.
Now go out and give it a try. The transition to a plant-based diet is a journey involving gradual changes and learning more about everything, including yourself!
